Kids’ Time & Worship Online

Like many pastors and church leaders, I’m navigating this uncertain time of having to close the church and move worship online. I have been moved and inspired by the many different ways churches have found ways to connect – some through zoom, livestreaming, video, etc.

It’s one challenge to figure out how to translate worship IN the building to ONline, it’s another challenge to figure out ways to include children during this time. I imagine if it is stressful for adults, it can be stressful for kids.

This being our first attempt at online worship, I inserted a kids’ time. We have been in the midst of a caterpillar project during Lent and found a children’s book to read. I offer this as one way we can connect kids in worship.

For future Sundays, I have some other ideas brewing that I can share here. We are all experimenting and trying something new. Prayers for you all!

If you like to see what I did for Kids’ Time, you can fast forward the video to 13:40.

  1. Theresa,

Thanks so much for sharing this. We broadcast our service every Sunday and are on television for the community, so the whole worship online thing isn’t new for us. However, I like how you did the children’s book, with the pages being shown up close as you read them. I assume this was taped ahead of your posting time, and there was time for editing?

    Thanks.

    1. Yes. I took pics of all the pages and used a video editing app to emphasize certain pics as I was reading. For the future, I’m looking at doing a Sunday lesson via zoom. We will see how that goes.

  2. Thanks for sharing all of your ideas and resources. I love the book Hope for the Flowers. Great themes. Janet

    1. Theresa,
Thank you so much for your wonderful prayer stations, I love how you make them work for both adults and kids. Here in Germany churches are still open but without any services or other meetings, so we decided to offer prayer stations and envelopes with materials and instructions for services and prayer stations at home. Your ideas were a wonderful inspiration, thank you! Rebecca

  3. Theresa,

Thank you so much for the link to watch your service on 3/15/2020. I have followed you for some time and used several of your prayer ideas with our 3rd to 5th grade students. Each year we have a prayer night set up with stations all around our fellowship hall to encourage the kiddos to try something new. Often it becomes their favorite activity of the year. Appreciate what you are doing to share God’s love.
